Civil Litigation

Resolving disputes through negotiation or, where needed, the courts.

When a dispute cannot be settled informally, you need someone who will explain your position honestly and pursue the best outcome at a sensible cost. We act for individuals and small businesses in a wide range of civil disputes.

How we can help

  • Contract disputes: unpaid invoices, broken agreements, faulty goods or services
  • Debt recovery: from letters before action to court judgments and enforcement
  • Property disputes: including landlord and tenant disagreements
  • Professional negligence: where an adviser has let you down
  • Defending claims: if a claim has been made against you

Our approach

Most disputes settle before trial. We aim to resolve yours early through negotiation or mediation, following the court’s pre-action rules. If proceedings are needed, we guide you through every stage and keep you informed about costs.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to bring a claim?

For most contract claims in England and Wales the limit is six years from the breach, but many claims have shorter limits. Get advice early.

What will it cost?

It depends on the value and complexity of the dispute. We will explain likely costs, and the risk of paying the other side’s costs, before you decide how to proceed.

I have received a court claim form. What should I do?

Do not ignore it. There are strict deadlines for responding. Contact us straight away.
